Staten Island, New York
October 12-17, 2014
Hurricane Sandy hit over 2 years ago but for some reason the Staten Island NY area has not had enough volunteer assistance to help rebuild and refurbish damaged homes. Staten Island for years has been a blue-collar community and many of the elderly remain in their family homes. There are currently five organizations still providing Sandy rebuilding efforts in the NYC area. There is a significant amount of home rehabilitation efforts needed and visiting groups are still being welcomed.
We need a team of 15 volunteers (either skilled or unskilled) to depart from Woods early afternoon of Sunday, October 12, 2014 and return after a full days work on Friday, October 17, 2014 (probably arrive back at Woods between 8 and 9 PM Friday evening). The team will stay at the Calvary Presbyterian Church on Staten Island with that congregation cooking our evening meals and providing breakfast and lunch fixings.
Dick Moore (trip coordinator) will lead an informational meeting this Spring for those interested in going or wanting more information about the PDA trip. Please contact Dick at 410-490-7607 and let him know your potential interest. There will also be a sign up sheet in Fellowship Hall starting in April.
